Deleware's largest city, Wilmington, may be mostly about big business, but venture beyond the nine-to-five veneer and find an assortment of museums, a pleasant zoo, and a number of historic sights.
The Historic Oakwood District of Raleigh is on the National Register of Historic Places and consists of 20 blocks of original Victorian homes. The district has quite a few small local shops that can be visited, however, the homes and elegance of a traditional southern neighborhood are the real attraction here. Also located within the district is Historic Oakwood Cemetery, which is home to over 2,300 Confederate soldiers who fought for North Carolina in the Civil War, as well as numerous public figures and contributors to the Raleigh area throughout history. Enjoy a lazy walk through the immaculate cemetery, complete with gardens and walkways, or take a stroll through the historic neighborhood and imagine living over 120 years ago. Either way, this district of Raleigh won't leave you disappointed.
