America's first English colonists settled on Roanoke Island, then disappeared mysteriously never to be seen again. This colony is remembered in the Elizabethan Gardens, a carefully landscaped expanse of greenery cultivated on the very site where the colonists made land in the 16th century. Wander peaceful paths leading from a Shakespearean Herb Garden to the Queen's Rose Garden, relax in the Sunken Garden and enjoy the water views from the thatched gazebo as you explore this attractive garden space.
