From the mysterious disappearance of Roanoke settlers to the Wright brothers' first flight, the Outer Banks are historically important yes, but they are also postcard pretty with enough beach to share between summer visitors.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore offers primitive camping on the beaches. It is important for campers to remember that they will be exposed to the elements of the beaches which can get quite windy from to time. Remember to pack accordingly and be prepared for ever-changing climates.

Very few amenities exist within the park, therefore campers must be prepared to pack in what they pack out. Also, be sure to bring enough drinking water as fresh water may or may not be available close by your camping area.
